Rich was wasting his life as an engineer, until he started building DIY electronics and discovered the open source hardware community. Now he works as a software engineer on Loomio, applying the DIY open source engineering approach to 21st century democracy.

In many cases, Paul will also be the one who comes to see you face-to-face. He has frequently visited Africa, overseeing the re-launch and maintenance of Mzalendo, the Kenyan parliamentary monitoring website (which uses our Pombola platform), and working with groups in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. His work isn’t limited to a single continent however, and he is also working with groups in South America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Before joining mySociety, Paul worked for five years at British Telecom, the UK’s largest telecommunications company, where he gained invaluable project-management experience. These days, he is often to be found on a train or plane, looking for somewhere to plug in his laptop and trying to get a decent internet connection. A public policy entrepreneur, open government activist and negotiation expert, David is retained by several governments to advise on open government and open data, and advises businesses and nonprofits on open source strategies and community management. He is an affiliate with the Berkman Centre for Internet and Society at Harvard University, where he is looking at issues surrounding the politics of data, as well as how negotiation theory can help improve online community management.
